BYE BYE to my boyfriend

In case y'all didn't know, I'm a Houston Astros fan, not by choice, but because I live here and all and that's what was on the tv when I was growing up, so I heart me some Houston Astros. I'm not a fair-weather fan either, I love them when they win and when they lose. Over the years, I've grown to love Lance Berkman, the former 1st baseman for my beloved Houston Astros. I affectionately refer to him as my boyfriend as does anyone who knows me...LOL Now, he doesn't know he's my boyfriend, seeing as how I've never met him or anything but he is cuz I say so, so there...HA

Until Friday night, when I heard the horrible news that he was being trading to the New York Yankees. This news crushed my beating heart. This news had me immediately posting to Facebook and texting my loved ones. I had to ask, do I break up with my boyfriend Lance or become a Yankees Fan??? The answer by everyone was unequivocally, break up with Lance. Do not use this as an excuse to go to New York for a visit and catch a Yanks game to see my sweet little cutie pie Lance, and in no way, shape, form, or fashion am I EVER supposed to use the words Yankee and fan in the same sentence much less one right after the other. When I claimed that I loved him cuz he's my boyfriend and all, I was told to just remember that he left me and that I'm supposed to now hate the Yankees more than EVER for being boyfriend stealers.

Sigh...I'll miss you Lance...

  1. I am so sorry for your loss. If you want to have a pity party just name the place and I'll be there buying you drinks to drown your sorrow in.

  2. LOL! You could always hate the Yankees and secretly love Lance... ya know, keep it on the DL. ;)

  3. Just drown your sorrows in a margarita or ten. You know you can't be a Yankee's fan. It's like giving up your Southern Girl status.

  5. I would say go with the long-distance relationship thing - it can work sometimes - but it's that whole Y-word thing. I just don't think you should lower yourself to that. I mean, really? We will celebrate your freedom this weekend and by celebrate I mean making that boy she loved when she was 10 wonder just how much this Southern Girl Gang knows about him. You're giggling already, aren't you?

  7. Oh man, my hubby just turned in his Astros card for that one. Granted, he hasn't lived in Houston since he was 13, but he has ALWAYS loved the 'Stros. He has been so sad all week. We totally feel your pain in this house.

  8. I saw this when you posted it and thought "oh, cool, she's in Houston"... because he got sent away, as did mr "let's not talk about him Ed" to the phillies...

and THEN, it went something like "OH HOLY BATSHIT CRAZY COOLNESS - She's in FREAKIN HOUSTON!"

So, you are on notice. I may be stalking you more. Oh and it would be totally great if you'd stalk me more too. Just sayin.

  10. Hmmm, love the Ghandi quote too...checking out the blog, like the snarky tone, the vibe; then, as a life long, dyed in the wool, at my mama's breast (not really, bottle fed, but it makes for good drama) New York Yankee fan, I was getting ready for some big time slams.
Now ladies, and you are ladies, being Southern and all, show a little kindness. Just as you were born fans of a certain team, some of us are fans for the same reason. And, boy, as a transplanted Connecticut native to Maine, being a Yankee fan in the land of the Red Sox is like being a child molester. There are bumper stickers that say, Yankees Suck and, I don't brake for Yankee fans and my fav, I'm a RS fan and whoever is playing against the Yanks.

I say, if you still love your guy, wish him well and perhaps his sterling qualities will improve the tenor of the team. Don't be a hater! Plus, who cannot love, love, love captain, Derek Jeter? You want some yum, there's some yum for you.

    Just sayin'
